Media Talk 101

Helping Families Regain Focus in a Media and Tech Distracted Culture

Description

Media Talk 101 is a nonprofit ministry dedicated to helping individuals and families navigate today’s media-saturated culture with wisdom and discernment. Founded by Phillip Telfer, the organization has been equipping parents, students, and church communities for more than 20 years through speaking engagements, workshops, conferences, and creative resources.

In a world where entertainment, technology, and social media often shape values and habits, Media Talk 101 exists to raise awareness about both the blessings and challenges of modern media. Our mission is not simply to warn about the dangers but to inspire people to pursue God’s best for their lives—choosing balance, moderation, and Christ-centered priorities over cultural pressure and digital distractions.

The ministry’s resources include the award-winning documentary Captivated: Finding Freedom in a Media Captive Culture, the comprehensive online course Screen Time 101, and Phillip Telfer’s new book Help! The Smartphone Ate My Family, a practical and winsome guide for parents navigating the digital age with their children. These resources are designed to spark meaningful conversations and provide Biblical, real-world tools for today’s most pressing media challenges.

Media Talk 101 also partners with churches and organizations to host live events where audiences are challenged and encouraged to live counterculturally in the digital age. At its heart, the ministry is about freedom—helping people break free from unhealthy media habits and rediscover the joy of purposeful living. Through Biblical truth, practical guidance, and real-life stories, Media Talk 101 empowers this generation to make wise choices with their screens and to pursue a life that glorifies God.
