Hello! I’m Melissa McNickle, otherwise known as The Math Translator. I am a tenured college professor and I have been teaching math for over 20 years. The program I have created for homeschoolers is the culmination of years of experience and trial and error in teaching in the online format. I discovered over time that learning managements systems don’t translate into success for the student. I know because I used them for years in my classes and was continually disappointed by the lack of success for my students using these systems. I eventually discovered that the most successful format for learning mathematics in the online learning environment is a format that recreates the most vital components of the face to face learning environment. Please watch the video above titled “The 3 Keys to Successfully Homeschooling in Math” to listen to me speak about these vital components as well as what I have created that provides an exciting and effective alternative to the programs currently available on the market.
My homeschool program provides online video instruction in math ranging from Prealgebra to Precalculus. Courses available starting in the Fall of 2020 are Prealgebra, Elementary Algebra, and Intermediate Algebra. College Algebra, Algebra and Trigonometry, and Precalculus will be available starting in the Fall of 2021. All of my courses have been built around the free online OpenStax math textbooks. There are three main components to each course. Please watch the video below to learn “How it Works”.
Your child can begin learning with me in Prealgebra and I can take them all the way to being prepared for college level math. Who better to prepare your child for college math than a college math professor? Please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions you may have.
